New Natrapel® 8 Hour Provides Outdoor Enthusiasts with Safe, DEET-Free Bug Bite Protection

April 10, 2009 - LIttleton, NH

Finally an effective formula that provides consumers with all of the protection of DEET – without the DEET!

It has become that dreaded rite of summer: as soon as the bugs come out, so does the DEET.  And while many consumers loathe the heavy chemical smell and greasy feel of DEET-based repellents, they’ve continued to use them. Why? The reality is that the non-DEET repellents available have simply not worked as well – until now.

In response to consumer demand for a DEET-free repellent that’s as effective as DEET, Tender Corp. has developed the NEW Natrapel® 8 hour.  Containing 20% of the active ingredient Picaridin, Natrapel® 8 hour offers families up to eight hours of protection from mosquitoes, black flies, ticks and other biting insects.

“Our research has shown overwhelmingly that a majority of consumers harbor serious concerns about the health effects of DEET repellents but have continued to use them, because there’s been no suitable alternative,” says Tender’s President Jennifer Cusick. “With the introduction of the new Natrapel® formula, Tender is fulfilling a long-standing consumer need for a repellent that works as well as DEET but has none of its perceived health concerns,” she added.

In head-to-head studies [2] , the new Natrapel® 8 hour equaled the level of protection or bettered that of medium-DEET products with the same concentration level for a majority of the most common biting insects, including disease carrying mosquitoes (which are responsible for the spread of West Nile Virus) and ticks (which are responsible for the spread of Lyme Disease).

Unlike DEET-based products, The New Natrapel® 8 hour is non-oily, non-greasy and offers a mild scent rather than the heavy repellent smell that consumers have had to put up with if they wanted to stay protected.

Safe for the whole family, Natrapel® 8 hour is equally well suited for the backyard and the backcountry. Hunters, anglers and hikers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Natrapel®’s as effective as DEET formula won’t ruin fishing line or sunglasses, should they inadvertently happen to spray some on these or any other plastics.

Natrapel® 8 hour will be available in Spring ’08 in both a 3.5 oz. pump (MSRP$5.99) and as convenient 12-piece wipes (MSRP$5.99), which will be easy to stow in a pocket or purse. Partial proceeds from the sale of Natrapel® will go to Tender Corporation’s Environmental Scholarship Fund.
